Musk’s Vision for Mars Colonization

Xiao Huang: DOORM, Elon Musk has long envisioned human colonization of Mars. How feasible do you think this vision is?

DOORM: Elon Musk’s vision for Mars colonization is filled with elements of science fiction and challenges. Although he has proposed the idea of establishing a self-sustaining city on Mars within 20 years, achieving this goal requires overcoming enormous technical and environmental challenges. Mars’ ecological environment is vastly different from Earth’s, and transforming Mars could take millennia. In the short term, it might be possible to build bunkers for independent survival on Mars, but this would be similar to living in space. Comparatively, building large space stations might be more realistic and feasible, with the Moon potentially serving as a base for space station construction. Therefore, while the vision of Mars colonization is exciting, its realization remains a long and uncertain journey.
