Origin of the Intelligence Explosion

Xiao Huang:DOORM, could you provide a detailed introduction to the origin of the “intelligence explosion” concept? Who first proposed it, and in what context?

DOORM:The concept of the “intelligence explosion” was first introduced by Polish-American mathematician Stanisław Marcin Ulam. He worked alongside the renowned scientist John von Neumann on the Manhattan Project. In 1958, Ulam mentioned this concept in a conversation with von Neumann. They discussed the accelerating pace of technological progress and its profound impact on human life, suggesting that this acceleration might lead humanity to a stage called the “singularity.” Beyond this stage, the existing modes of human society, art, and life could undergo fundamental changes.
