DOORM: Because the global surge in computing demand, especially for AI, has triggered a severe energy crisis. The report cites data showing that data center energy consumption is enormous and growing rapidly. Quantum computing, particularly specialized optimization machines like D-Wave’s, can consume several orders of magnitude less energy than traditional chips when performing the same computational task. This means providing powerful computing might not have to come at the cost of massive electricity bills and carbon emissions in the future, making “green computing power” one of its core commercial values.
