Life is primarily yang, and illness is primarily yin. Life is more about yang and energy, while illness is more about yin and material. From a philosophical perspective, illness is not necessarily bad but serves as a way to regulate life. Using medicine to treat illness is merely a tool in this regulatory process. After taking medicine, the body’s life activities (metabolism) refine the effects of the medicine. We should change our inherent thinking about illness. Therefore, studying life and vitality is more meaningful in a normal state. Only by understanding the normal state can we analyze and apply corrections and adjustments during illness, rather than treating symptoms in isolation without a holistic and systematic approach.
Secondly, an important aspect of life and illness is emotions and the five wills. In the closed energy field of human life, the seven emotions (joy, anger, worry, thought, sadness, fear, and shock) regulate the body’s internal processes. This complete process distinguishes animals from humans, representing life. At the same time, these emotions bring corresponding diseases. In this unique human life, the seven emotions are attributed to different organs, affecting their vitality and overall life force, thus influencing the balance between life and illness. For example, joy is governed by the heart. When one is happy, heart function is smooth and normal, but excessive joy can lead to heart disease. Without joy, the heart’s function is not activated.
